“I want to take your guns”

Liberals like to parse words.  Remember Bill Clinton’s famous “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.”  The words, “I want to take your guns” have probably never come out of Hillary Clinton’s mouth as the liberal media is claiming.  But she has said:

  • “Recently, Australia managed to get away, or take away tens of thousands, millions of handguns. In one year, they were all gone. Can we do that?  If we can’t, why can’t we?”
  • “America’s gun violence epidemic is out of control. No more excuses—we need to act to save lives.”
  • “Gun Violence Is A National Emergency. It is long past time to say enough.   Enough talk. Enough delay. It is time to act.”
  • “I stand in support of this common-sense legislation to license everyone who wishes to purchase a gun.”
  • “I also believe that every new handgun sale or transfer should be registered in a national registry, such as Chuck [Schumer] is proposing.”
  • “I would also work to reinstate the assault weapons ban. We now have, once again, police deaths going up around the country, and in large measure because bad guys now have assault weapons again.”
  • “We cannot let a minority of people—and that’s what it is, it is a minority of people—hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people.”

For those of you that don’t know what Australia did, they passed a law that made many classes of firearms illegal.  This law included a mandatory gun buyback law where you had to turn in your gun and in return received a fraction of the gun’s actual value.  Hillary said, “Can we do that?  It sounds like she wants to take some guns.   It sounds like she wants every gun owner to be licensed.  It sounds like she’s for gun registration, the first step in confiscation.

Police deaths are increasing, but there’s no evidence to show it’s because “…. bad guys now have assault weapons again.” Many studies have shown that Bill Clinton’s ten year long assault weapon ban had no effect on crime.

Today, violent crime is down 51% and gun crime is down 49% since 1993.  If gun violence is an “epidemic” or “National Emergency” today, what should it have been called in 1993 when Bill Clinton was president and it was 49% higher?  Maybe a super epidemic?

Gun crime is not a “National Emergency”.  The nation is not in the grip of a “gun violence epidemic”.  There are several large cities that are, all run by Liberal Democrats, but the nation as a whole is seeing a reduction.

Truth is, even though Hillary Clinton has probably never said “I want to take your guns”, you can make a pretty good case that she does or at least wants to severely restrict access to them.

Another truth is a President Hillary Clinton cannot just by edict, take guns away.  She can direct various Federal agencies to make life difficult for firearms dealers.  Or she can violate the law and maintain NICS check records instead of destroying them after completion like her husband did.

Or issue multiple Executive Orders like Barrack Obama.  Those executive orders were mostly for show, to make it look like HE was doing something when Congress refused to pass laws that would have no effect on crime or criminals, just law-abiding citizens.  You can find my analysis of Obama’s Executive Orders here:  Obama’s Executive Orders

Liberals will remind us that the 2nd Amendment protects our gun rights and Hillary just can’t suspend it.  Which is true.  But the same 2nd Amendment that protects my rights protects people in New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, California, Massachusetts, etc., etc., etc. Try buying a gun or getting a concealed carry permit in one of those States.

And that is Hillary’s real goal, to turn the whole country into a New Jersey or a Maryland.  Everyone that would feel safe and secure walking the streets of Baltimore or Trenton at night with nothing in their pocket but change, raise their hand.  I thought so.
