The War on Carbon Dioxide

Hugh Hewitt made this comment the other day on the radio, “In a world full of evil, America declares war on carbon dioxide emissions”.

The insanity this statement points out seems beyond belief, yet every day there are more calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but nothing about stopping the daily beheading of innocent civilians in the Mideast.

I’m not advocating that the United States return to the role of Global Policeman or send troops to every hot spot in the world to stand between warring factions.   But maybe we should take a page from the playbook of one of the Liberal’s greatest heroes:  President Franklin D. Roosevelt.   In 1940, he proposed the United States become the “Arsenal of Democracy”.  Roosevelt promised to help the United Kingdom fight Nazi Germany by giving them military supplies while the United States stayed out of the actual fighting.  Maybe President Barack Obama should be promising to help all those that want to fight Islamic oppression in the same way Roosevelt did.

What we should be doing:

  • Provide Special Forces trainers to train those willing to fight against ISIS.
  • Provide Special Forces trainers to train leaders how to lead their men in combat.
  • Provide arms, ammunition, communications, vehicles, field gear and rations.
  • Provide Air Support: Ground attack aircraft, helicopter gunships, fixed wing gunships.
  • Embed Tactical Air Control Party’s with local groups to effectively call in air support.
  • Provide helicopter transportation assets to rapidly move local troops to where needed.
  • Assist in the organization of a REAL coalition of Mideastern countries to fight ISIS.
  • Provide intelligence and advice to the coalition.

I think we have proved in the past few years that sending US troops in to remove the evil dictator and then hand the country over (along with a big bag of money) to the formerly oppressed people doesn’t work.  I’ve never agreed with that philosophy.  We should support those that want to fight for their own freedom, not fight for them.  Give them a chance to make a better life for themselves.  It will not end well for those that don’t want to take up arms against ISIS.  They will die a horrible death, become refugees or accept the oppressive laws, beheadings and subjugation of women that will follow.

But instead of doing something to help fight against this evil that vows to come to our country, our president has essentially told the oppressed of the Middle East, “Screw you, we’re too busy fighting a much greater world threat: greenhouse gases”.  How can anybody look at the photograph of the three year old Syrian boy who washed up on the beach, drown fleeing ISIS and still say global warming is the greatest threat to the world?  Global warming didn’t make this boy flee Syria causing him, his brother, his mother and nine others to drown.  How can anybody take Obama’s plea about saving the planet from greenhouse gases serious when he has no problem taking Air Force One to Florida just to play golf?  Can you imagine the irony of telling someone who lives where the average summer temperature is 110 degrees that you can’t help them save their children because you are fighting global warming?

It’s hard to stand your ground against a flesh and blood enemy; to pull the trigger when you have him in your sights.  To take the enemies life, while knowing he is trying to take yours;  then live with those images in your mind for the rest of your life.   And it’s harder for the leader who has to order those people into harm’s way.  To be the “Buck stops here” guy when things go wrong, when bombs miss targets, when intelligence is wrong or when the enemy gets through.  To live with the thousands of deaths that might result from your decisions.

It’s much easier to fight an invisible enemy like global warming than an evil like ISIS.  You don’t need an expensive army and you won’t take casualties. There’ll be no innocent civilian deaths, collateral damage or friendly fire incidents.  And your friends in the “Green Industries” will make a lot of money.   If you can actually win your war, then the world will be a nice, comfortable place to live for the Islamic terrorist who will be running it because the only country that could stop them was busy counting polar bears and measuring glaciers.
