Gun Law Fails, Again

Just ran across this news item that I haven’t seen on any of the big networks.  A New Jersey woman was killed by her violent ex-boyfriend.  She feared for her life and wanted to get a gun for protection.  Being a law-abiding citizen, she followed the law in New Jersey and applied for a permit to buy a gun on April 21st.  Forty-three days later on June 3rd, with her application still pending, she was brutally stabbed to death.  Read the story:

Woman Stabbed to Death While Waiting for Gun Permit Approval

Is this insane or what?  A woman dies because bureaucrats took too long shuffling unnecessary paperwork.  In most States, she could have walked into a gun store, bought a gun, passed the phone-in NICS background check and walked out with protection.  If she lived in one of the five States that doesn’t require a concealed carry permit, she could have legally put the gun in her pocket or purse and been protected.

In New Jersey, regardless of your situation, you need a permit to buy a gun.  The bureaucrats have up to 30 days to approve or deny your application.  So for up to 30 days, (43 in this case) you have to hide and live in fear.  New Jersey Governor Chris Christy’s proposal fix to this problem:  If you are really, really in fear of your life, your application will be processed within 14 days!  What?

New Jersey is one of those States that believes overly restrictive gun laws will protect its citizens from gun violence.  The only one protected from gun violence in this case is the man who murdered the woman with a knife.
